Abstract
Communication technology is increasingly playing a role in people's lives, now there is a technology in the future called Metaverse. Metaverse is a virtual reality that is formulated like real life reality. This research will look at the Metaverse concept on the Roblox platform. The aim of this research is to find out the Symbolic Convergence of the Metaverse in the Indonesian Roblox Community Association. The data were obtained from the results of in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation studies using qualitative research methods. The theory used is symbolic convergence which has four dimensions, namely fantasy theme, fantasy chain, fantasy type, and rhetorical vision. The research results show that the process of symbolic convergence emerges from the fantasy themes of the Metaverse as a world of the future, virtual reality, to communication technology. The fantasy theme gives rise to a form of symbolic cues that are features of the Metaverse and types of role-playing as well as cooperative activities. Furthermore, it forms two types of fantasy, namely the Metaverse which gives changes in communication and the Metaverse which is digital life. The next process ends with a chain of rhetorical fantasies and visions. Metaverse is an alternative for human life to carry out activities in the economic, entertainment, education sectors, with the support of the features offered by Metaverse to shape digital life in the future. In this case, the rhetorical vision forms a fantasy about the Metaverse being a second life for its user. Keywords: Symbolic Convergence, Metaverse, Roblox Platform.
