Abstract

South Sumatra is one of the largest rubber producers in Indonesia with an area and production of rubber plantations as of 2021, namely 1.311.726 (ha). The rubber processing industry in South Sumatra includes Rubber chips. Rubber waste or Rubber chips is organic solid waste that is disposed of by industry. Processing of rubber as rubber chipping, which mainly includes sand, rubber wood chips, rubber sheet and rubber. The availability of rubber waste from rubber factory processing is quite large and if it is not managed intensively it will damage the environment and disturb the community. One way to overcome the impact that will be caused by the waste is to carry out the process of composting rubber chips. This is based on the fact that the waste of rubber chips contains organic matter. Until now, research on Rubber chipping is still limited. In this study, the application of rubber chips to the physical properties of ultisol on maize (Zea mays L.) was carried out. This study used a rubber chipps treatment with a dose scale of 25 g. This study aims to determine the effect of giving chewing gum in each dose given. The research was carried out from December to March 2022 in a greenhouse in the Department of Soil, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University, Indralaya, Ogan Ilir. The design used in this study was a completely randomized design with 4 levels of treatment. Each treatment was repeated 5 times, so there were 20 experimental units. The level of treatment in this study was T3 (Rubber chips dose of 75 g/10kg soil); T2 (Rubber chips dose 50 g/10kg soil); T1 (Rubber chips dose of 25 g/10kg soil). T0 (Without Treatment). The research data were analyzed using ANOVA and further tested with the BNT test at the 5% level. The results showed that each application of rubber chips T3 had no significant effect on some physical properties of the soil but showed a significant effect on water content and plant height growth of corn (Zea mays L.).
