Abstract

NUR AMALIA NASUTION. The Effect of Repellent Plants on Diversity Entomophaga Arthropods in Erect Bean Plants (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) in Research Fields, Faculty of Agriculture University of Sriwijaya. CHANDRA IRSAN. Bean plants have problems in the form of pest attacks. The use of repellent plants as hedges in bean cultivation is an alternative control. The use of repellent plants is able to resist the presence of insect pests. The effect of repellent plants on entomophages needs to be investigated to determine the diversity of entomophages active in the soil and in the air around the upright bean plants. This research was conducted at the Research Land of the Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University and the Entomology Laboratory of the Department of Plant Pests and Diseases, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University from September to December 2022. This study used 4 repellent plant treatments, namely basil, marigolds, and citronella as hedges on chickpea plantations. upright. This study used 1 pitfall trap and pan trap in each treatment plot. Observations were made 8 times with an interval of 5 days. Pitfall traps are installed within 1 x 24 hours and pan traps are installed for 1 x 12 hours. The results showed that upright bean plants without repellent plants had a larger population of entomophagus arthropods than those treated with repellent plants. The repellent plants of basil, kenikir, and citronella had an effect on the presence of entomophaga arthropods which were 25%, 29%, and 45% active in the soil and 30%, 35%, 45% active in the air, respectively. Diversity index of active entomophaga arthropods in the soil for 4 treatments included in the moderate category ranged from 2.086-2.633. The dominance index is classified as low, namely 0.111-0.240. The evenness index is classified as high, namely 0.908- 0.961. The diversity index of active entomophaga in the air in the 4 treatments included in the moderate to 2.79-3.167 category. The dominance index is relatively low, namely 0.165-0.219. The evenness index is classified as high, namely 0.904-0.931. The conclusion of this study is that upright bean plants surrounded by repellent plants can affect the diversity of entomophaga arthropods. In the repellent plant treatment, citronella plants had the least number of entomophaga arthropod populations, namely 165 total active individuals in the air and 60 active individuals in the soil, so that the effect of citronella as a repellent plant was the largest, namely 45% rejecting the presence of entomophaga arthropods. Diversity index values of active entomophaga in soil and air are in the moderate to high category, dominance index values are in the low category and evenness index is in the high category.
