Abstract
Indonesia has a lot of swamp land. A swamp is a puddle of water that occurs continuously scientifically or seasonally due to obstructed drainage. Carbon steel corrosion can be prevented or corrected in its various service environments by a number of methods. One method is possible wherein less expensive methods of protection such as coating, cathodic protection and treatment by changing the structure or properties of the composition. Swamp research also has some special chemical, physical and biological characteristics. This research was conducted to determine the effect of variations in the heat treatment of 750℃. Corroding media of swamp water taken in the KTM Rambutan area, North Indralaya District, Ogan Ilir Regency, South Sumatra. With a pH when taking 3.00 with variations of immersion time in swamp water 48 hours, 96 hours and 144 hours. 2. Before the specimen is immersed, the specimen is heat treated with variations in quenching, normalizing, and annealing with a heating temperature of 750℃ with holding time 120 minute. The research carried out after the specimens were immersed in swamp water were microstructure testing, hardness test and thickness test of crystalline phase corrosion (thicness) using X-ray defraction (XRD) method and microstructure observation using Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). ASTM A36 steel is used for construction because this steel is strong, in the process before it reaches the place to be installed it may experience processes that make it plastically deformed, there is a change in the microstructure that will change its physical and mechanical properties. If this steel is directly used as construction steel in a swamp water environment which generally in South Sumatra consists of peat, swamp water contains acid which causes the steel to corrode, therefore it is necessary to do research on how the influence of swamp water on the corrosion rate of construction steel. when using ASTM A36 steel.
