Abstract

Indonesia's railway manufacturing industry is delevoping quite rapidly, with PT Industri Kereta Api as the sole producer of trains in Indonesia and the Southeast Asia region. There was a increase in export of Indonesian trains to the Philippines in 2018. Through the procurements of locomotives, passenger car, and diesel multiple unit carried out by Philippine National Railway in the context of modernization and expansion of railways in the Philippines which was part of "Build! Build! Build" domestic political policy during the Rodrigo Duterte administration which was examined through this research. This study aims to describe the factors that led to an increase in the export of railway facilities from Indonesia to the Philippines in 2018. Factors that came from Indonesia's competitive advantages are the focus of this research. This study was analyzed with Michael E. Porter's Competitive Advantage of Nations theory with put to see the available dimensions and indicators. Qualitative research methods are used in this study with the aim of describing the factors in competitive advantage that led to an increase in the export of railway facilities from Indonesia to the Philippines in 2018. The data used in this study are sourced from secondary data found on official websites, reports, journals, and news. This research shows that the factors that trigger an increase in the export of railway facilities from Indonesia to the Philippines in 2018 are factor conditions, demand, related and supporting industries, firm strategy-structure-and rivalry, role of chance, and the role of the government.
