Abstract

Background: End-stage Renal Disease (ESRD) is a decline of renal function substances for over three months and characterized by GFR <15 mL/menit/l,73m2 where hemodialysis therapy is required. ESRD has poor prognosis and high mortality so it should be prevented by reducing the risk factors and etiologies but the type of risk factors and etiologies need to be cleared beforehand due to the different characteristics of risk factors in various places. Thus, a study based on different time and place is required. Methods: This study was descriptive observational study which had taken place in seven hemodialysis installations in Palembang ffom September to December. Samples were entire patients’ medical records with CKD who had undergone hemodialysis in Palembang in 2010-2012. Rcsults: The number of cases of CKD patients undergoing hemodialysis in 2010, 2011, and 2012 respectively were 602, 883, and 1016 patients. The incidence of Palembang residents who were diagnosed with CKD in 2010, 2011, and 2012 were 0.023%, 0.032%, and 0.034%. CKD is most common in the age of 51-60 years old, which was 27.9% (2010), 29.6% (2011), and 30.6% (2012). The majority of CKD patients is male which was 58.6% (2010), 55.5% (2011), and 53.6% (2012). Most patients are housewives which was 20.6% (2010), 22.1% (2011), and 21,9% (2012). Palembang is the city where most of the patients live in which was 54.7% (2010), 54.2% (2011), and 51.4% (2012). Hypertension is the most common causes of CKD which was 40.9% (2010), 42.7% (2011), and 43.2% (2012). Conclusion: There are some simiiarities in demographic characteristics and the characteristics of CKD patients undergoing hemodialysis between Palembang city compare to other areas in Indonesia and outside of Indonesia, such as the number of cases that increase every year, age, sex, occupation, and address.
