Abstract

Background: Toddlers who are undergoing growth process must be offset with the provision of good and balanced nutrition. Because in infancy, adequate and balanced nutrition is very influential on physical growth, brain development, ability to work and good health. Nutritional status is influenced by several factors, namely mother’s nutritional knowledge, mother’s age, mother’s education, occupation and family income. Methods: This study is the type of observational analytic with cross-sectional design. This study aims to determine the relationship of sociodemographic characteristics and mothers nutritional knowledge about the nutritional status of children who visit the Gasing Laut Health Center, Talang Kelapa Sub-district, Banyuasin District performed with consecutive sampling technique. In November-December 2013, there were 74 samples of primary data. Results : The problem of malnutrition reaches 23.0% and excess nutrients not found in this study, mother’s age were obtained age<20 years 52.7% and mothers age>19 years 47.3%, mothers who do not work 59.5% and 40.5% of working mothers, the highest education in this study was SD 60.8%, SMP 21.6% and SMA17.6%. Income research subjects<UMR Rp. 1.600.000 70 people and 4 people>UMR Rp. 1.600.000, knowledgeable enough 51.4%, less 39.2% and knowledgeable well as 9.1%. Nutritional status of infants is influenced by mother’s nutritional knowledge, mother’s education and family income with the value (p<0.05). Conclusion : It was concluded that the mother’s knowledge and level of education is very influential of toddler nutrition.
