Abstract

Social change brings a renewable element to social life in this world. This element will create dynamics in the order of life of a society. The impact of social change caused by this process of fusion/mixing between cultures is currently a challenge for the Malay community in Muara Bulian, Batanghari Regency, Jambi, and must also be able to maintain the existence & ethnic integrity of the Malay people. The purpose of this study is to describe the Malay ethnic community in Muara Bulian, Batang Hari Regency, Jambi in response to a very massive cross-cultural fusion process, resulting in the creation of social changes in the midst of the course of the Malay community's cultural life. The benefits of this research can enrich concepts and theories that support sociology knowledge and add insight, especially in social change courses. The theory that can help answer research problems is using Agil Talcot Persons Structural Functionalism Theory. This research method uses a descriptive qualitative research approach. The results of this study, namely the creation of phenomena that appear in the midst of the life of the Malay community, are a form of response to social change caused by the process of fusion/mixing between cultures in the Malay community in Muara Bulian, Batanghari Regency, Jambi. Where these phenomena are used as a tool to be able to preserve, maintain and maintain the cultural existence of the Malay community in Muara Bulian, Batanghari Regency, Jambi.
