Abstract

Maternal nutritional status affects both the mother and the fetus. Several factors affect the nutritional status of mothers during pregnancy including weight gain, upper arm circumference and hemoglobin levels of mothers who are less or at risk can result in the risk of low birth weight babies and the risk of stunting. This study was to analyze the relationship between the nutritional status of pregnant women and the weight and length of newborns in the working area of the Pemulutan Health Center. The research design is a quantitative study using a cross sectional study. The number of samples in this study were 44 samples with purposive sampling technique. The research instrument was in the form of medical records/ANC prenatal check-ups and mother's birth records. Data were analyzed univariately and bivariately using the fisher’s exact test. The results showed that the majority of mothers experienced abnormal weight gain (79.5%), the majority of mothers did not experience chronic energy deficiency (84.1%), the majority of mothers did not experience anemia (95.5%) and the majority of infants did not experience LBW (97.7%) and the majority of babies have a length that is not at risk (70.5%). It was concluded that the results of the study showed that the variable maternal weight gain had a significant relationship with the baby's birth length, but did not have a significant relationship with the baby's birth weight. Meanwhile, the LiLA variable and Hb level did not show a significant relationship to the baby's birth weight and length. Suggestions in this study are that pregnant women are expected to be able to control their weight, upper arm circumference and Hb levels so as to support meeting the needs of the mother and fetus during pregnancy, and this research can become initial data for health institutions in developing programs that can increase awareness and add information pregnant women to pay attention to their health, especially maternal nutritional problems during pregnancy.
