Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk memodifikasi ruang alat pengering ikan tipe plat berongga dengan sumber energi briket batubara agar suhu yang dihasilkan konstan dan merata sampai pada bagian rak paling atas. Penelitian ini telah dilaksanakan di Bengkel Teknik Pertanian, Jurusan Teknologi Pertanian, Fakultas Pertanian, Universitas Sriwijaya, pada bulan Februari sampai Agustus 2005. Kapasitas alat pengering ikan tipe plat berongga yaitu berkisar 10 kg sampai dengan 20 kg dengan mempertimbangkan faktor efisiensi penggunaan ruang dan distribusi aliran udara. Waktu yang dibutuhkan untuk mengeringkan 10 kg ikan asin yaitu 13 jam dengan 3,651 kg massa air yang diuapkan serta membutuhkan 130 butir briket batubara super (6,5 kg). Efisiensi pengeringan dari alat pengering tipe plat berongga ini yaitu 22,4 % dan efesiensi pemanasannya yaitu 30,97 %.
