Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui sifat fisik dan media tanam berbasis bahan organik pada tanaman indikator kangkung {Ipomoea reptans). Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di Bengkel Pusat Bisnis Aplikasi Sains dan Teknologi Palembang PBAST) Sumatera Selatan dan di Laboratorium Jurusan Teknologi Pertanian Fakultas Pertanian, Universitas Sriwijaya pada bulan Januari 2013 sampai Nopember 2013. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskritif dengan membandingkan 3 perlakuan kandungan arang aktif yaitu perlakuan media tanam A (750 g tanah + 750 g kompos + 250 g arang aktif bambu + 250 g perekat tapioka + 100 ml lateks karet), perlakuan media tanam B (750 g tanah + 750 g kompos + 500 g arang aktif bambu + 250 g perekat tapioka + 100 ml lateks karet), perlakuan media tanam C (750 g tanah + 750 g kompos + 750 g arang aktif bambu + 250 g perekat tapioka + 100 ml lateks karet. Parameter yang diamati adalah kadar air media tanam, kerapatan (bulk density), porositas dan pertumbuhan dan perkembangan tanaman kangkung (Ipomoea reptans). Penelitian menunjukkan bahwa media tanam dengan perlakuan komposisi arang aktif yang berbeda memiliki sifat fisik yang berbeda pula. Nilai rata-rata kadar air media tanam berkisar antara 25,18 % sampai 26,77 %, kerapatan (bulk density) berkisar antara 1,26 gram/cm3 sampai 1,36 gram/cm3 dan untuk porositas nilai rata-ratanya berkisar antara 48,67% sampai 52,67%. Media tanam dengan komposisi arang aktif yang lebih banyak memiliki pertumbuhan dan perkembangan tanaman kangkung yang lebih baik (perlakuan media tanam C).
