Abstract

Research has been carried out on the anti-oxidant potence of kecombrang (Etlingera elatior), which includes the determination of total phenolic content and antioxidant activity of the extract, and the fractions of the kecombrang (E.elatior) plant. Determination of total phenolic content with gallic acid standard using Follin Ciocalteu reagent. The principle of this test is the formation of a blue colored complex compound. The antioxidant activity test using the free radical scavenging method DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazil) measured absorption at a wavelength of 515 nm. The results of the determination of the total phenolic content of the extract, and the fractions of kecombrang (E.elatior) rhizome, respectively, were 6.868±1.272, 27.478±0.277, 18.587±1.635, 20.914±0.193 mgGAE/g. Kecombrang (E.elatior) flower extract and fractions had total phenolic content of 25.983±1.556, 20.380±0.119, 25.591±1.078, 20.380±0.119 mgGAE/g. Kecombrang leaf extract and fractions had total phenolic content of 17,227±0.436, 28.046±4.952, 20.295±0.945, 12.973±1.295 mgGAE/g. The antioxidant activity of the kecombrang (E.elatior) rhizome extract and fractions had IC50 values of 25.43, 31.33, 87.58, 78.99 ppm. Kecombrang flower extracts and fractions had IC50 values of 84.05, 76.01, 53.73, 58.56 ppm. Kecombrang (E.elatior) leaf extracts and fractions had IC50 values of 79.59, 88.23, 84.42, 48.13 ppm. For the antioxidant activity of vitamin C and quercetin each has an IC50 value of 15.6 ppm and 15.9 ppm. Very strong antioxidant activity was obtained from kecombrang (E.elatior) rhizome extract, n-hexane fraction of kecombrang (E.elatior) rhizome, vitamin C and quercetin.
