Abstract

Dental caries in one of oral and dental diseases which mostly suffer by Indonesian people. It is highly correlated with oral hygiene. Oral hygiene is the most important factor of oral and dental health. Since the highest oral hygiene index of someone, the lowest insidence of oral and dental disease. One of the ways to keep oral hygiene is brushing of teeth. However, it depends on the frequency, timing, and technique of teethbrushing. The objective of this research was to find out if there have correlation or not between the ffequency, timing and technique of teethbrushing with Oral Hygiene Index-Simplified(OHI-S) from student 10-12 years old of Elementary School 32 Palembang. The research represents correlative descriptive with cross sectional approach, where the population was student 10-12 years old of Elementary School 32 Palembang. The processing data used was computerized and analyzed by univariate and bivariate technique. The results showed that there was no correlation between teethbrushing of ffequency and oral hygiene index, there was no correlation between teethbrushing of timing and oral hygiene index, there was correlation between teethbrushing of technique and oral hygiene index, there was correlation between gender and oral hygiene index, there was correlation between parent’s education and oral hygiene index, there was no correlation between parent’s job and oral hygiene index, there was correlation between parent’s knowledge and oral hygiene index. In conclusion oral hygiene index not only influenced by ffequency, timing of teethbrushing, but also technique of teethbrushing.
