Abstract

Denture’s surface attached to mucous membrane inhibits the cleaning by saliva and caused the booming plaque on denture’s surface. Plaque is a good media for flora of the mouth cavity to grow and reproduce. Ccmdida albicans is normal flora in the mouth cavity that usually attached on denture’s surface. To prevent the booming of Ccmdida albicans among the denture users is by keeping the denture clean. To clean the denture just soak it in Chemical solution.The Chemical solution can be got from medicinal plant with low price. Aloe vera is one of medicinal plant that could act as antimicrobial substance.The objective of this study was to observe the effectiveness ofAloe barbadensis Miller extract to inhibit the growth of Candida albicans. This experiment used heat cured unpolished acrylic resin plate.The size of the plates was 10 x 10x2 mm. The concentration of boiled Aloe barbadensis Miller were 85%, 90%, 95%, and immersed 30 minutes during the preparation. The control group used sterile aquadest. Each group consist of 6 samples. The colonies of Candida albicans were detennined by counting Candida albicans that grew on Sabouraud dextrose agar in Colony Forming Unit per milliliter (CFU/ml). One way ANOVA was used to analyze the data and the level ofsignificancy was 5%. Then. the LSD test was used. The study showed that the boiled extract of Aloe barbadensis Miller was effective to inhibit the growth of Candida albicans. It showed that the higher concentration the more effective in inhibiting the growth ofCandida albicans.
