Abstract
Celery leaves contains active components such as flavonoid, saponin, and tannin that have been known for its antifungal, antibacterial, and anti inflamatory properties. This study aimed to compare the antifungal activity of ethanol and etyhl acetate extracts of celery leaves against Candida albicans. This study used post test only control group design. Samples were divided into four main groups, group 1 was ethyl acetate extract in concentration 10%, 20%, 40%, group 2 was ethanol extract in concentration 10%, 20%, 40%, group 3 was positive control using nystatin, and group 4 was negative control using aquades. Antifungal activity was tested using Agar diffusion method (Cakram Kirby-Baurer), while the dilution method was used to determine the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and the minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC). Data were analyzed using Independent t-test and Oneway ANOVA followed by Post Hoc test. Ethyl acetate extract of celery leaves showed more antifungal activity against C.albicans than ethanol extract, but it was still unequal to positive control. The MBC of both extracts ranged from 3,125% to 100%. It can be concluded that celery leaves ethyl acetate extracts can be used as an alternative of antifungal agent.
