Abstract
Introduction: Sectio Caesarea is giving birth to a fetus through an incision in the abdominal wall (laparotomy) and uterine wall (hysterotomy). Sectio Caesarea surgery causes pain and results in changes in tissue continuity due to surgery. One of the non-pharmacological management that can be performed on post op sectio caesarea patients who experience pain is to give foot massage. Methods: A qualitative descriptive method with a case study approach published from 2008-2020 can be full text. Results: the three managed cases contained five nursing problems in post op sectio caesarea patients. One of the main nursing problems is acute pain. The end result of the nursing problem is partially resolved. The non-pharmacological intervention given to reduce pain is by using foot massage therapy, the result is decreased pain and the patient feels more relaxed, comfortable, able to carry out activities than before after being given a foot massage intervention. Analysis: Foot massage is given 1 time per day for 2 days in a 20 minute massage time can reduce 1-2 pain scale. Discussion: Foot massage therapy has the effect of reducing pain because the massage that is done produces a stimulus that reaches the brain faster than pain so that it produces serotonin and dopamine. Foot massage stimulates nerve fibers to produce pain-relieving endorphins. Because the concentration of pain receptors is highest in the hands and feet (each extremity has more than 7,000 nerve endings), foot massage and neuron stimulation are effective techniques in reducing pain after caesarean section surgery.
