Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui sifat fisik dan mekanis papan serat yang terbuat dari tandan kosong dan sabut kelapa sawit. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di Bengkel Jurusan Teknologi Pertanian, Fakultas Pertanian Universitas Sriwijaya dan Laboratorium Teknik Mesin Politeknik Sriwijaya dari bulan November 2009 sampai dengan Maret 2010. Metode yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah metode pengolahan data secara deskriptif dan penyajian hasil berupa tabel dan grafik. Ada tiga komposisi bahan yang digunakan pada penelitian ini ( A = 150 g tandan kosong kelapa sawit, 150 g sabut kelapa sawit, dan 60 g polivinil asetat; B = 100 g tandan kosong kelapa sawit, 200 g sabut kelapa sawit, dan 60 g polivinil asetat dan; C = 50 g tandan kosong kelapa sawit, 250 g sabut kelapa sawit, dan 60 g polivinil asetat). Parameter yang diamati adalah kadar air papan serat, pengembangan tebal papan, tarik, dan kuat tekan papan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan rata-rata kadar air papan serat adalah 9,57%. Papan serat terbaik terdapat pada komposisi 150 g tandan kosong kelapa sawit, 150 g sabut kelapa sawit, dan 60 g polivinil asetat dengan karakteristik rata-rata modulus elastisitas sebesar 0,317 x 106 N/m2 dan kuat tekannya sebesar 32 kg/cm2.
