Abstract

Background: Hybrid composite resin dan resin modified glass ionomer cement has heen used to achieved adequate and aesthetic restoration. Comhination of these material is called sandwich restoration. The aim of this study w as to evaluate effect of thickness ratio between resin modified glass ionomer cement and hybrid composite resin on the compressive strength of sandwich restoration. Methods: A total of 21 cylindrical specimens (4 mm in diameter and 4 mm in thickness) were divided ini o three groups. The first group w as RMGIC. and hybrid composite resin sandwich restoration with thickness ratio of 1:3, the second group was RMGIC and hybrid composite resin sandwich restoration with thickness ratio of 2:2, the third was RMGIC and hybrid composite resin sandwich restoration with thickness ratio of 3:1. The compressive strength was measured using a universal testing machine. Data were analyzed by one-way ANOVA and Pos t Hoc LSD tes t. Results: One-way ANOVA and Post Hoc LSD tests revealed statistically significant drfferences (p<0.05) among the sandwich restoration compressive strength for first group (174.89^23.413 MP a), the second group (110.38±11.533 MP a), and the third group (89.18±8.094 M P a). Conclusions: The conclusion of this study was thickness ratio between RMGIC and hybrid composite resin affected the compressive strength of sandwich restoration.
