Abstract
Zinc polycarboxylate is a luting cement used for permanent cementation of alloy restoration. One of disadvantages of this cement is its high solubility. Cement can contact with various acid from food, beverage and also the acid produced by microorganism in oral cavily. It can ajfect the solubility of cement. One of acidic beverages is fermented milk beverage. The aim of this study was to determine the effect o f fermented milk beverage on solubility of zinc polycarboxylate as luting cement. The samples used in this study were 32 cylindrical-shaped zinc polycabroxylate with 20 mm in diameter and J, 5 mm in height. The samples were divided into four groups: zinc polycarboxylate immersed in distilled water (control), yoghurt, yakult, and kefir for 30,5 hours. Solubility was tested using a digital scale and the values were determined in %. The results showed that the highest solubility was found in group immersed in kefir (3,805 ± 0,169%) while the lowest solubility was found in group immersed in distilled water (0,896 ± 0,101%). The data were analyzed by One Way ANOVA and continued by Post-Hoc LSD. The results of Post-Hoc LSD test showed that there were significant differences (p<0,05) in solubility among groups, except between yoghurt and yakult group. It can be concluded that the fermented milk beverage with various pH and lactic acid content can increase the solubility of zinc polycarboxylate as luting cement.
