Abstract

This research is titled "Instagram Celebrity Phenomenon among Palembang Teens". The purpose of this research is to know and understand the motives and self-identity that will be built by instagram celebrities among the teenagers of Palembang. This research uses Phenomenological theory. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. Data collection techniques use in- depth online observations, and in-depth interviews. The number of informants in this study was 12 informants. The results of this study showed that the motive underlying the existence of celebrity isntagram among teenagers in Palembang is Ligkungan and Economy, while the identity that is to be built by celebrities instagram teenagers is Identity Achievement. This may explain that the environment and economy play a big role in establishing self-identity among teenage Instagram celebrities.
