Abstract

In retreatment endodontic, one of the important procedure is removing filling material in canal. It can be done by using the combination of dissolving material and instrumentation. Chloroform, the most commonly used nowadays due to it’s toxicity and potential carcinogenicity. The most recently proposed dissolving agents are eucalyptol oil and orange oil for dissolving guttapercha. The aim of this study was to observe the effectiveness of eucalyptol oil and orange oil in dissolving gutapercha. In this study, 24 acrylic blocks where the center are shaped like root canal and filled by guttapercha and divided into 4 groups; 6 samples for aquades (negative control), 6 samples for chloroform (positive Controls), 6 samples for eucalyptol oil and 6 samples for orange oil. Guttapercha were removed 2 mm for reservoir, then weighed. Each samples were dripped with their designed solvents and being lefl for 1 or 2 minutes prior to instrumentation with rotary instrument until guttapercha were removed. Acrylic blocks that filled with remaining guttapercha then weighed. The remaining of guttaperca that was removed were observed by using digital counter weight Shimadzu AY220 with subtracted the first and the second weight. Data were analyzed by ANOVA one way, if significant were continued by LSD tes t. The results of statistical analysis reveal that orange oil gives the same effect with chloroform in dissolving guttapercha at both times, orange oil is more effective than eucalyptol oil, whercas aquadcs does’nt significant. So, we can concludc that orange oil is faster in dissolving guttapercha than eucalyptol oil and aquades.
