Abstract

Query Expansion (QE) is an important process in Cross-Language Information Retrieval (CLIR) system, because it can make the document identification process better. The use of QE aims to see if there is an improvement in the results of the CLIR (Indonesian-English) system, compared to the CLIR Non QE system. In general, the use of QE in the CLIR system can provide an improvement in terms of recall, because the system can retrieve relevant documents that could not be retrieved before by the initial query. This research uses the lexical database method which is one of the expansion features analyzed in the linguistic approach using WordNet as its module. Based on the test results using 10 queries, the average precision value is 0.719 and recall is 0.785 on the QE system.
