Abstract

Hydrogen is a compound which produces energy that is environmentally friendly and has the potential to replace fossil fuels with a side product in the form of water. Therefore, research on hydrogen production is widely carried out. Research on the influence of proton exchange mambrane based electrolyser on hydrogen flow rate using Cu2O/C catalysts with various currents and stacks had been carried out. The electrodes were made by distributing the catalyst on the surface of the Gas Diffusion Layer (GDL). The electrodes resulted were characterized using the Cyclic Voltammetry (CV) method to obtain the value of the active catalyst area (Electrochemical Surface Area/ECSA) and the Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) method to obtain the electrical conductivity value of the electrode. The highest ECSA values and electrical conductivity of electrodes with Cu2O/C catalyst were found at 3 mg/cm2 catalyst loading with 689.07 cm2/g and 2.57x10-1 S/cm respectively. The optimum hydrogen production flow rate for a single stack was 0.919 mL/s at an electrode surface area of 7x7 cm2 with a catalyst loading of 3 mg/cm2. The optimum hydrogen flow rate at multistack is 1.0204 mL/s.
