Abstract
Data from WHO, UNICEF and the World Bank in 2007 shows the decrease ofmaternal mortality is still less than 1% per year. According to WHO, 40% ofmaternal mortality in developing countries were associated with anemia in pregnancy. Anemia is a disorderfrequently encountered in both the clinic and in thefield. The prevalence ofanemia in pregnancy in Indonesia in 2001 was still high, about 40.1%. The lack of knowledge concerning anemia and poorfamilial consumption pattern in pregnant woman were the cause ofanemia in pregnant women. There are many factors ajfecting the incidence of anemia in pregnant women, such as the mother’s age, education level, economiy, parity, pregnancy age, and compliance in taking Fe tablets. | The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between age and knowledge of mothers with the incidence of anemia in pregnant women in Puskesmas Dempo Palembang at 2009. | The design ofthis study is analytical with cross-sectional approach. The population ofthis study was all pregnant women who intend to Puskesmas Dempo in December 2009. Samples were taken with consecutive way and 30 were obtained. | The results shows ofthe 30 respondents , 40% sujferedfrom anemia. Respondents who develop anemia at risk of age were 14.3%, while 71.4% of respondents with anemia were less educated. From bivariate analysis withfisher test the value ofp is = 0.193 <a = 0.05 indicating no relation between age with anemia incidence in pregnant women. While Chi-square test on knowledge showed p value = 0.001 <0.05 indicating that knowledge of mothers has significant relation with relationship with anemia incidence.
