Abstract
Garlic {Allium sativum Linn) belongs to a group of medical plants, it has health benefits and known since a long time. It also known as a antibacterial traits. The purpose of this study was to determine the activity of garlic extract antibacterial towards bacteria Porphyromonas gingivalis. Laboratory experimental post-test only control group design is used in this study. The sample was garlic extract {Allium sativum Linn) made by maceration method. Antibacterial activity test performed by diffusion method by using pitting technique, the sample was divided into 6 groups treated with concentrations of 10%, 15%, 20%, 25%, 30%, 35% and 2 control groups which positive control (metronidazole) and negative control (aquadest). The results of antibacterial activity were analyzed by One Way ANOVA, followed by post hoc test. The data from ANOVA showed that garlic extract concentration of 20%, 25%, 30%, and 35% provide activity inhibits the growth of bacteria Porphyromonas gingivalis. The effective concentration to inhibit bacterial P.gingivalis started from concentration 20%. Increased concentrations of garlic extract showed the magnitude of bacterial growth inhibition zone diameter.
