Abstract

Denture adhesive adalah suatu bahan yang digunakan pada pemakai gigi timan penuh untuk meningkatkan retensi dan stabilitas gigi tiruan penuh. Frekuensi penggunaan denture adhesive dapat mempengaruhi frekuensi pembersihan gigi timan penuh karena gigi timan penuh harus dibersihkan sebelum dan setelah pemakaian denture adhesive. Pembersihan gigi tiruan penuh dapat menurunkan jumlah mikroba, salah satunya adalah Candida albicans. Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk mengetahui hubungan frekuensi penggunaan denture adhesive dengan jumlah Candida albicans pada pemakai gigi timan penuh. Sampel yang digunakan adalah hasil swab dari 30 pasien pemakai gigi timan penuh sebelum dan setelah menggunakan denture adhesive. Sampel terbagi menjadi 3 kelompok, yaitu kelompok yang tidak menggunakan denture adhesive (kontrol), menggunakan denture adhesive satu kali sehari dan denture adhesive dua kali sehari selama 7 hari. Hasil swab dikultur dan kemudian jumlah Candida albicans dihitung menggunakan colony counter dalam satuan CFU/ml. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan selisih jumlah Candida albicans terbesar terdapat pada kelompok pengguna denture adhesive dua kali sehari (25,8 + 5,692) sedangkan jumlah terkecil terdapat pada kelompok yang tidak menggunakan denture adhesive (11,6 + 6,095). Data yang diperoleh dianalisis menggunakan One Way ANOVA dan dilanjutkan dengan Post-Hoc LSD. Hasil Post-Hoc LSD menunjukkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan jumlah Candida albicans yang signifikan (p<0,05) antar kelompok perlakuan. Kesimpulan penelitian ini adalah frekuensi penggunaan denture adhesive pada pasien pemakai gigi tiruan penuh yang melakukan pembersihan gigi tiruan sebelum dan setelah penggunaan denture adhesive dapat menurunkan jumlah Candida albicans sehingga tetap dalam jumlah normal.
