Abstract

Chili is a commodity with high commercial value in Indonesia, both on a large and small scale. One of these is caused by Fusarium oxysporum, a soil-borne pathogenic fungus that causes wilt disease in chili plants. Chemical pesticides are commonly used to control plant pests, but their excessive and prolonged use can harm the environment. As a resu lt, non-chemical control alternatives are required and are being developed at the moment. Endophytic bacteria have been extensively studied for their ability to control plant pathogens. Aside from being environmentally friendly, the benefits of using endophytic bacteria include a more accessible manufacturing process, a low price, and the ability to increase plant fertility. This research was conducted from February 2022 to June 2022 at the Microbiology Laboratory and Genetics and Biotechnology Laboratory, Department of Biology, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Sriwijaya University. Sampling was carried out at the Timbangan chili plantation, Indralaya Utara District, Ogan Ilir Regency, South Sumatra. This research is a type of qualitative research using the descriptive analysis method to explain the results of the data based on a comparison result from the obtained data. the data is presented in the form of pictures and tables. The research data were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively by explaining the character and identity of endophytic bacteria from the roots of chili plants and calculating the diameter of the inhibition from the endophytic bacteria in the antagonistic test. Based on research that has been carried out, the isolation of endophytic bacteria from the roots of chili plants (Capsicum annuum L.) obtained 8 isolates of endophytic bacteria, and 4 isolates of endophytic bacteria that have the potential to inhibit Fusarium oxysporum IPBCC 07.540 growth with the highest inhibition zone diameter of 15.5 mm found in the BECA.1 isolate which is suspected to be the genus Carnobacterium.
