Abstract
Damage to or failure of the components of an engine operation industry are events that often occur in the industry anywhere. Events failure is caused by various kinds of things, both from the terms of the operation, in terms of design, as well as from the terms of the treatment and the selection of material is wrong. Failure analysis or failure analysis can be defined as a lack of inability to materials or parts of the machine to work well, for whatever reason. One of the failures on shaft machine apron feeder at factory. Factory quarry stone coal is a company that is engaged in the field of industrial stone coal. One of the engines in the engine, which helps in producing stone coal, is the apron feeder. Engineering apron feeder is functioning to accommodate the stone coal spilled from the carriage - carriage train and unload rock embers then transferred to a conveyor belt. A motor drives the apron feeder itself. In the apron feeder itself, there are important components such as the shaft. Shaft in the engine apron feeder is wearing material steel AISI 4340. Section shaft often experiences failure because of their pressure load of stone coal. With loads that often befall shafts, this is often the case of failure or damage, As for events such as corrosion caused by the shaft which is in contact directly with the stone coal containing several compositions chemical, the crust that is rarely cleaned in shafts and factors environment section may lead shafts to have corrosion. The purpose of research it is to examine and analyze the causes of damage or failure of the shaft of the apron feeder at the factory quarry stone coal to give a recommendation so that the future can reduce cases of failure on the shaft in order to be able to survive long in accordance-aged material. From the results of the analysis of Views of data observation, observation and analysis of laboratory and discussions can be concluded that the cause of the damage to the shaft apron feeder is due to the overload of stone coal impinge on one part and the load that is received each part is not flat. The existence of dynamic loading in the form of compressive forces causes the material to experience excess stress in certain regions and finally generating bent at the shaft. The other cause is due to chemical compounds that make the shaft corroded.
