Abstract

Produk tambang batubara di Indonesia 70% termasuk tipe batubara muda (brown coal, lignit, dan sub-bituminus) dan tipe bituminous dan antrasit ±20%. Peningkatan kualitas batubara lignit dan sub-bituminus sangat diperlukan untuk menambah nilai jual. Pada pemanfaatan batubara berkualitas rendah (sub-bituminus) banyak digunakan sebagai bahan bakar PLTU dan industri. Syarat batubara agar bisa menjadi bahan bakar yaitu sifat fisik terutama pada nilai HGI (Hardgrove Grindability Index). Pada penelitian ini akan menganalisis pengaruh pemanasan batubara terhadap ketergerusan batubara dengan variasi suhu 25°C, 50°C, dan 75°C dan waktu pemanasan 90 menit, 120 menit, 150 menit, dan 180 menit. Pengujian HGI menggunakan sampel batubara sub-bituminus Bukit Asam Tanjung Enim dengan karakteristik kimiawi batubara awal, yaitu kandungan inherent moisture 21,07%, ash content 3,27%, volatile matter 37,87%, fixed carbon 37,79%, dan nilai kalori 5335 kal/gr, serta nilai HGI 47,86. Hasil pengujian dengan pemanasan batubara yang mendapatkan nilai HGI tertinggi berada pada suhu 75°C dan waktu pemanasan 180 menit yaitu 61,52. Karakteristik kimiawi batubara dengan nilai HGI tertinggi, yaitu kandungan inherent moisture 20,29%, ash content 5,31%, volatile matter 36,1% fixed carbon 38,3%, dan nilai kalori 5270 kal/gr.
