Abstract

One of the Crude Palm Oil (CPO) conversion processes into fuels such as biogasoline and bioavtur can be developed through the hydrocracking process. This study aims to synthesize SiO2-ZrS catalysts with EDTA varied as templating and chelating agent and to characterize them on crystallinity, acidity level and functional groups. The catalyst that has been made is then applied to the hydrocracking of CPO at a temperature of 500˚C for 1 hour. The results of the XRD analysis showed that the SiO2-ZrS TEDTA catalyst produced a crystalline form where there was a sharp peak at an angle of 2θ around 21.9˚ (ICDD No.39-1425). Based on the results of the acidity analysis, the SiO2-ZrS catalyst absorbed more ammonia and pyridine with a total acidity of 1.2106 mmol/g and 0.1836 mmol/g. FTIR characterization showed the presence of lewis acid sites on the SiO2-ZrS KEDTA catalyst at 1446.37 cm-1 and bronsted acid sites at 1636.66 cm-1 on the SiO2-ZrS TEDTA catalysts. The results of GC-MS analysis on hydrocracking product showed the highest biogasoline selectivity by SiO2-ZrS KEDTA catalyst (17.59%) and the highest bioavtur selectivity by SiO2-ZrS TEDTA catalyst (41.37%). This shows that the structure of SiO2-ZrS with the template and EDTA chelating methods gives effective results for biogasoline and bioavtur products. The highest performance in the CPO hydrocracking process was shown by the SiO2-ZrS TEDTA catalyst with a conversion of 92.29%.
