Abstract

Nowadays, dental feamess still becomes the major problem in pediatric dental treatment. That’s why, a dentist who treats children should have a variety of behavior guidance approaches and managements. With a good and right behavior management, pediatric dental treatment can be done efficiently and effectively. Dentists in Palembang practically will treat a pediatric patient, so they need a good behavior management method. Until now, behavior management method with communicative guidance is the most method used by dentist. This study was conducted to determine behavior management method with communicative ■ guidance which is used by dentist in treating pediatric patient aged 3-12 years-old in; Palembang 2008. Type of this study is deseriptive analytic with cross sectional study design. The manner of samples taking is probability sampling technique with amount of samples are 30 dentists. Data is taken by observed dentists while they were treating children. The methods • that used by dentists while treating children are tell-show-do, voice control, non verbal communication, positive reinforeement, distraetion, parental presence, and normal conversation. The most method that is used is parental presence (100%). In this study, determined that there is no affect between dentist’s age and behavior management method that is used. Voice control method was significantly more prevalent among female dentists than males (p = 0.037, chi square test). On the other methods, there is no affect between sex of the dentists and behavior management method that is used.
