Abstract

Nanofill composite resin is a kind of composite resin which the size offiller particles is ranging from 0.01 to 0.04 pm. As a restorative material, nanofill composite resin would be exposed to various liquid in oral environment such as saliva, food, drinks, mouth rinses, etc. Several kinds of colored drinks which are often consumed by Indonesian among others tea, coffee, and carbonated drink like cola beverage. The aim of this study w as to evaluate the effects of several drinks (coffee, tea, and cola beverage) on color stability of nanofill composite resin. The samples of this study were 20 disk-shaped nanofill composite resins, with 10 mm in diameter and 1 mm in thickness. Furthermore all specimens were immersed in aquades for 24 hours to equal the humidity. Then the baseline color value (L*a*b*) was measured by Chromameter CR-10 Konica Minolta Co. Ltd. Japan. L* denotes lightness and a*b* denotes chroma (+a*=red, -a*=green, +b*=yellow, and -b*=blue). Afterwards, the specimens were randomly divided into 4 groups which each group consist of 5 specimens. The study was continued with immersing all specimen in aquades as control (group 1), coffee (group II), tea (group III), and cola beverage (group IV) for 7 days. After immersion, all specimens were remeasured and the color change value (AE*ab) was calculated. Statistical analysis was carried out by using one-way ANOVA. The means were then compared by LSDo.os test. The study result showed that several drinks affected the color stability of nanofill composite resin (p<0.05).
