Abstract
One of the most widely used materials in prosthetic dentistry is acrylic resin. Excellent appearance, ease in processsing, and repairability, make acrylic resin as an excellent denture base material. However, the primary problem is its poor strength characteristics, including low impact and flexural strength. Fracture strength of a denture base resin is of great concem, and many approaches have been used to strengthen acrylic resin dentures. Strengthening the acrylic resin prosthesis can be approached by modifying or reinforcing the resin. Metallic mesh is a wire mesh that has traction, flexion, and press the large, this ability to give strength to the metallic mesh to hold the object and puli while. The aim of this study was to measure the transverse strength of a heat cured acrylic resin, after reinforcement with metallic mesh. The study carried out with two groups which contained 10 specimens each. Group I consisted of 10 specimens with metallic mesh. Specimens in group II (control group) consisted of 10 specimens without any reinforcement. The statistical analysis used is student t test after using goodness of fit test. The result showed that transverse strengths of all test groups have any differences and there were statistically significant differences among group (a=0,01). This study conclude that the effect of using metallic mesh in removable denture design against the transverse strength of acrylic plate. This method more effective to improve and enhanced transverse strength of denture base acrylic resin.
