Abstract

Exchange rate volatility can create turbulence in the economy. An understanding of the determinants of exchange rate volatility provides valuable insight into macroeconomic stabilization issues. The aim of this study is to analyze the effect of trade openness and the money supply on real exchange rate volatility. The data is taken from the word bank and bank for international (BIS). This study uses static panel data regression analysis techniques. The results showed that trade openness, money supply and gross domestic product had no significant effect on Real Exchange Rate Volatility in ASEAN-5, while Financial Disclosure and Current Account Balance had a significant effect on real exchange rate volatility in ASEAN-5. Therefore, this study recommends that the governments of each country maintain economic stability, especially on financial factors such as the investment climate, asset management and others. The government is expected to be able to maintain the balance of the current account so that growth can develop without any worries about economic turmoil.
