Abstract
Background: Sambiloto is a traditional plant that has a major active compound content of andrographolide, and flavonoids and other active compounds are tannin, saponins and alkaloids. Active compounds are known t o have antimicrobial activity. This study aimed t o test the inhibitory power of sambiloto (Andrographis paniculata) leaf extract against Candida albicans. Methods: This type of experimental laboratory studies in vitro by using the agar well dijfusion method. Sambiloto leaf taken from the garden in the village of Kubang, Subdistrict Guguak, District Fifty Cities, West Sumatra. Sambiloto aged 3-5 months who had taken their leaves in the morning at 7:30 pm. Sambiloto leaf extract obtained by maceration. Extract of sambiloto leaf is made in 5 concentration, they are concentration of 60%, 70%, 80%, 90% and 100%. Nystatin used as positive Controls and aquades as a negative control. Then tested for activity against Candida albicans with poured the materials into the well of 100 pL. Results: The results showed that around wells containing the extract of sambiloto leaf with a concentration of 60% to 100% there is no bright zone that shows the inhibitory activity against the growth of Candida albicans. While the wells containing nystatin are bright zone with an average of 18.47 mm. Conclusion: Sambiloto (Andrographis paniculata) leaf extract can not inhibit the growth of Candida albicans.
