Abstract

Background : Removable denture base heat cured acrylic resin has the disadvantage of low impact strength. The aim of the study was determine the effect use of metallic mesh on the impact strength of removable denture base heat cured acrylic resin. Methods : The object of research is made of heat cured acrylic resin with a rectangular shape and size LxWxH 55mm x lOmm x 3mm ADA specification no.12 are 32. Object of study is divided into 2 groups each consisting of 16 attractions in the control group the heat cured acrylic resin using without metallic mesh and the treatment is heat cured acrylic resin using a metallic mesh. Prior to testing, the research object is v notch in the middle of the object, and after testing with a Charpy Impact Testing Machine Results : The average value of impact strength of denture base heat cured acrylic resin with a metallic mesh is 0.5221 J/mm2 greater than average impact strength of denture base heat cured acrylic resin without metallic mesh is 0.3780 J/mm2. Based on the analysis of T test statistic proves significant difference (p <0.05), where the use of metallic mesh improve the impact strength of denture base heat cured acrylic resin. Conclusion : Proven use of metallic mesh on a removable denture base heat cured acrylic resin improve the impact strength.
