Abstract

Oral and dental health in Indonesia is one of the problem that need our attention, this is because oral dan dental desease is the major problem which patient always complain about it, approximately about 60%. This oral and dental disease is dental caries and periodontal disease, especially ginggivitis, this is connected to oral hygiene. Oral and dental health care could be much better if it is also supported with knowledges. Children’s knowledges degree in oral and dental health care is not much good in general, this is could effect the oral and dental hygiene in those children. Purpose. To know the relationship between dental health care knowledge and oral and dental hygiene status at Elementary students in SD 12 Palembang. Methode. Data accuired from interview about children’s knowledge in dental health care using quisioner and the result of oral and dental health care status measured with Oral Hygiene Index-Simplified Status (OHIS-S) from Green and Vermillion. Data was analized using Chi Square test. Result. x2 calc. value (2,776) < x2 table (9,488) so Ho was accepted. Conclusion. There is no significant relationship between knowledge about dental health care and oral and dental hygiene in elementary students of SD 12 Palembang.
