Abstract

Diabetes melitus ( DM) can attack all the human body System and generates assorted of sigh, including sigh in oral cavity. The oral manifestation of DM patient is xerostomia, caused existence of angiopathy, neurophathy and dehydration as diuresis osmotic. Xerostomia is not the only oral manifestation in DM, because degradation of stream saliva vvill have an effect on also at oral cavity defence system. So generally at DM patient besides experiencing xerostomia also vvill be found high ffequent of dental caries. This research was conducted to asses the relationship of DM type 2 with risk of xerostomia and dental caries. The sample of this research were divided into to 2 group, DM ( internal disease polyclinic outpatient of RS. Dr. A. K. Garu Palembang) and Non DM. Each group consist of 25 people. The inspection of secretion saliva and dental caries (index DMF-T ). Frequent occurent of xerostomia in DM 64% and Non DM 16% with OR: 9. Frequent occurent of dental caries in DM 56% and Non DM 12% with OR: 9. The result are significant statistically ( p < 0,05). It could be concluded that high level of blood glucose may significantlly influence of xerostomia and dental caries.
