Abstract

Green beans are palawija crops that have many benefits and are which includes legumes that have many benefits that are vulnerable to warehouse pest attacks. One type of warehouse pest insect that often attacks green bean seeds is Callosobruchus chinensis. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of white pepper powder on the death and development of larvae, pupae and C. chinensis in green bean seeds. This research was conducted from February to March 2019 at the Biological Control Laboratory of the Plant Protection Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University. This study uses a completely randomized design (CRD) method consisting of 6 treatments, namely: 0.0 gram (control), 0.2 gram, 0.4 gram, 0.6 gram, 0.8 gram and 1 gram white pepper powder and repeated 4 times. At 1 gram treatment resulted in higher mortality of C. chinensis imago than in other treatments, with an average mortality of 48.00%. White pepper powder did not affect the appearance of C. chinensis, the appearance of the imago ranged from 31-33 days. White pepper powder can influence the development of C. chinensis pest populations both larvae, pupae and imago. The percentage of damage to green beans due to damage from C. chinensis was highest in the control treatment with an average damage of 28.50%. The percentage of attacks affect the weight loss of green beans, if the percentage of damage is high then the effect of weight loss will also be high.
