Abstract

Candida albicans is kind of yeast found in oral cavity, gastro-intestinal, vaginal area cavity and it is found 40-60% in oral health cavity. The aim of the present study was to investigate the influence of ketepeng cina (Serma alata Linn) flower extract against Candida albicans. In this study, ketepeng cina (Senna alata Linn) flower extract was used for inhibiting the growth of Candida albicans. The study was conducted in vitro by means of Candida albicans yeast ffom pure culture obtained at Microbiology Laboratory of Medicine Faculty, UNSRI. From the pure culture, Candida albicans was made into suspension (Mac Farland 0,5) mixed with ketepeng cina (Senna alata Linn) flower extract 10% and 50% and then spread onto Sabouraud’s Dextrose Agar (SDA) media and were incubated for 24 hours at room temperature (37°C). Control plates are imeresed in sterile purified water and ketoconazole 2%. There are 4 groups in this study and each group consisted of 7 samples. The assessment of Candida albicans is by counting the amount of Candida albicans colonies that grows in Sabouraud’s Dextrose Agar (SDA) media with the unit of Colony Forming Unit per mili-litre (CFU/ml). Data analysis which was used in this study was One way ANOVA with the degree of trust 95% and followed by POST HOC LSD test. The result showed that ketepeng cina (Senna alata Linn) extract of 10% and 50% consentration had capability of inhibiting the growth of Candida albicans.
