Abstract

This research is entitled "The Behavior of Women Active Smokers in Rejang Lebong Regency, Bengkulu". This research aims to determine the behavior of women who are active smokers. Particularly, this research intends to find out the knowledge of women who are active smokers about the dangers of smoking and the factors that motivate them to become active smokers. This kind of research is descriptive qualitative research with the case study method. Determination of informants is using a purposive technique and the data collection is done by non-participant observation, interviews as well as documentation. The results of this research are the knowledge of women active smokers towards the dangers of smoking that they have known, but they still choose to keep on smoking on the grounds that they cannot stop or are addicted. The factors behind women becoming active smokers are driving factors, enabling factors, and reinforcing factors. As for the driving factors, there are attitude, age, education, and occupation that affect the behavior of women smokers and for enabling factors, there are the physical environment and health facilities. The physical environment, such as the weather, becomes one of the factors that causes women to smoke with the reason to warm their bodies, meanwhile health facilities are very adequate with a short distance from where they live. For the reinforcing factors, among others is due to encouragement from family, friends, and community leaders. Keywords: Behavior, Women, Active Smokers
