Abstract

The research area, administratively is located in the Siasam Village, XII Koto Kampar Sub-District, Kampar District, Riau with the width of area is approximately 49 km2. Geologically, the research area is located in Central Sumatra Basin. This research aiming to obtain the geology condition including geomorphology, stratigraphy and also geological structure and also to obtain the sandstone characteristic based on petrography analyisis. The research method which used are pre-field, field observation, laboratory analysis, studio analysis, and also reporting.The research area is consisting of two geomorphology units such as denudation plain and denudation hills. The stratigraphy of research area is divided into two rock units such as Meta-claystone of Kuantan Formation which in the age of pre-tertiary and Sandstone of Menggala Formation which in the age of Tertiary. Geological structure which develop in the research area is Situngkal Fault. The characteristic of Menggala Formation sandstone in the research area has the physical colour of Grey with the grain of fine-coarse. The dominant mineral is the quartz which to be interpreted deposited in the fluvial system environment, this sandstone was divided into three kinds based on petrography such as Quartz Arenite, Sub Arkose, and Feldspathic Wacke.Geological history of research area begin with the pre-tertiary with the development of Slatestone of Kuantan Formation, after that on the Tertiary of Oligocene-Miocene, there is a sea level rising event so deposited the Menggala Formation Sandstone unconformably above the Slatestone from Kuantan Formation. After the creation of Menggala Formation on Middle Miocene, there is an extension phase which creates the reverse fault with the orientation of Southwest-Northeast. After those creation of the geological order, finally there is an denudational process which forming the current landscape condition nowadays.
