Abstract

Soil is a very important basic component in construction or development activities, and the quality of the soil plays an important role in a construction activity, the soil acts as a support for the foundation of a construction building to withstand the loads that are on it, good soil is soil that has good technical properties. where the soil is able to withstand all the loads that are on it, both from static loads and with dynamic loads. Some development lands have poor or problematic soil quality. One type of problematic soil is expansive clay, which has a low carrying capacity. This can happen because expansive soil has high shrinkage properties. One effort that can be done to overcome the expansive nature of soil is by means of soil stability. The stabilization carried out is chemical stabilization in the form of adding volcanic ash waste resulting from volcanic eruptions, with variations of volcanic ash 5%, 10%, 15%, 20% and 25%. The curing time is 0 days, 3 days, 7 days and 14 days. In this study, the tests carried out were soil properties testing as well as mechanical tests in the form of standard soil compaction tests and UU Triaxial tests. The research results show that the greater the addition of volcanic ash variations can increase the shear strength value. The increase in shear strength was also influenced by the curing time. The highest value of shear strength was found on the 14th day of curing time.
