Abstract
Indonesia is rich in cultural diversity and customs that grow in one social unit. Every culture that is born in a region certainly has its characteristics. Usually, culture is carried out by a group of people who can influence many people so that a tradition is created that is carried out routinely at a predetermined time and has been passed down from generation to generation. Globalization and modernization have changed human life in many aspects. The city of Yogyakarta, of course, has now experienced a lot of renewal due to globalization and modernization. Regardless of the many updates and changes that have been experienced, the Javanese people have not forgotten their culture or traditions. The Javanese people, especially the Panembahan Village, still commemorate the big days they believe in. The One Suro Night is the commemoration of the turn of the Islamic New Year which coincides with the 1st of Muharram and the Javanese New Year, which are combined so that the Javanese call it "Suran" or "Suro". The people who still regularly participate in the implementation of the One Suro Night certainly have their views so they still want to be involved in this tradition. This study was analyzed using the perception theory of Stephen P. Robbins. The research method used in this research is descriptive qualitative using a case study research strategy. The data collection used in this study was a non-participant observation, in-depth interviews with 10 informants, and documentation in the form of photos of research locations and research activities. The results of this study indicate that the perception of the people of Panembahan Village towards the Satu Suro Night Culture is divided into 3 views, namely: 1. Asacred night, 2. A night full of blessings, 3. A culture that has been passed down from generation to generation. Then there is the meaning that the people of Panembahan get after regularly participating in the implementation of the One Suro Night Culture, including becoming more grateful and introspective and creating a life that is harmonious, solid, and has a high tolerance for others. Keywords: Perception, Javanese Society, One Suro Night.
