Abstract
This study used an experimental research type, in which experimental research was carried out by looking at the effect that occurred on the specimen. This research was conducted to determine the effect of using industrial salt additives in cooling media on the hardness of AISI 4340 steel. Specimens were hardened at 925°C, which were then quenching using industrial salt solutions with different concentrations. The hardness results of the hardened specimens were then quenched using a solution of industrial brine with a concentration of 25% resulting in a hardness value of 319.7713kg/mm2. The hardness results of the hardened specimens were then quenching using a solution of industrial brine with a concentration of 55% resulting in a hardness value of 373.838kg/mm2, from these tests it can be seen that the highest hardness value was found in specimens quenching with industrial salt at a concentration of 55%, so the addition of industrial salt can affect the hardness of AISI 4340 Steel.
