Abstract

Tissue discontinuity can cause wound or ulcer formation. A material that is polential to cure ulcer is sunflower seed oil. Sunflower seed oil contains litioleic acid and vitamin E which have roles in wound healing process, especially in inflammation phase. The purpose of this research was to flnd out the effectivity of sunflower seed 011 in restoring tissue continuity of wounded male wistar while rats labial mucosa. This experimental laboratory research was conducted using post test-only control group design. Samples were divided into 3 treatment groups and 2 control groups. 6 samples were pul in each group. 3 samples were used for reepithelialization observation on the T' dcty of the research. The rest were used for collagen observation which lasted until the 3rd day. rThe treatment groups received sunflower seed oil topically 3, 2, and 1 time in 12 hours a day, respectively. The positive control group received Aloc/air® and the negative one received aquadest topically, 3 times in 12 hours a day. Tissue continuity restoration was measured through reepithelialization rate and collagen pattem-orientation parcrmeters. Data were analyzed by performing Kruskal-Wallis test followed by Mann-Whitney test. The groups receiving sunflower seed oil 3 and 2 times in 12 hours a day had faster reepithelialization than the group receiving sunflower seed oil 1 time in 12 hours a day. Ali treatment groups exhibited denser type III collagen than the negative control group. In conclusion, sunflower seed oil was effective in restoring tissue continuity of wounded male wistar white rats labial mucosa.
