Abstract
The study aimed to develop HOTS-based Indonesian narrative reading materials for the Tenth Grade Students. This study employed design research, consisting of analysis, design, evaluation, and revision, proposed by Akker. The formative evaluation was conducted through the one-to-one evaluation, small group evaluation, and field test. The subject of this study was the tenth graders of SMAN 19 Palembang. The total number of the students was 32 persons. Three students were involved in the one-to-one evaluation, nine students in small group evaluation, and all students in a real class in a field test. The data were validated by the experts of content, language, and instructional design. The mean validity score of the developed products was 3.23 which was categorized as a valid level. The practicality was conducted in the one-to-one evaluation and small group evaluation. The practicality score of one-to-one was 3.24 and categorized as a high practical level. Meanwhile, the practicality score of small group evaluation was 3.10 and considered a high practical level. The reading test material was categorized as effective. The study discovered that 14 (70%) of 20 students exceeded the MMC (minimum mastery criteria) in the reading test for 60.
