Abstract
The first food consumed by babies is human milk and infant formula milk. Milk is very important in the child’s growth like for development of bone and teeth forming. Besides that, milk also has a potential cariogenic because it contains lactose and sucrose that can be fermentated by the main the bacteria causing caries, Streptococcus mutans. An experimental laboratory about difference the influence of streptococcus mutcms in human milk and infant formula milk to enamel of primary teeth hardness was done. The purpose of this study was to investigate the differences of enamel hardness after added streptococcus mutans in human milk and infant formula milk. In this study, 18 deciduous enamels divided into 3 groups each consisted of 6 samples. Samples that had been sterilized, and put into BH3 (Brain Heart Infusion) media contain Streptococcus mutans culture and then incubated for 24 hours. Each samples group was immersed in aquadest, human milk and infant formula milk, then incubated again for 7 days. The enamel hardness measurement was done before and after immersion using Micro Vickers Hardness Tester. The deviation values between enamel hardness before and after immersion were analyzed using one way Anova followed by LSD (Least Significant Difference). The result showed that there was a significant difference of the value of enamel hardness reduction after human milk and infant formula milk immersing. It was concluded that human milk and infant formula milk could decreased enamel hardness.
