Abstract
Periodontitis can significantly lead to the risk of preeclampsia disease by means of bacterial infection and systemic inflammatory mediators through the blood circulation into the placenta. The purpose of this study was to determine a relationship between periodontitis and preeclampsia. The method used in this study was analytic survey with cross sectional approach Samples were 60 people, divided into 2 groups of 30 pregnant women with preeclampsia as the case group and 30 pregnant women who did not suffer preeclampsia as the control group. Data were obtained by using interdental hygiene index, papilla bleeding index and periodontal index of treatment needs and were analyzed by t test showed that there was a statistically significant difference in value p<0,05. Obtained results were HYG (0.019<0,05), PBI (0.048<0,05), and CPITN (0.038<0,05). Basedon the study, it can be concluded that there was a statistically significant relationship between periodontitis and preeclampsia. It suggested to give education to pregnant women regarding the impact of periodontal disease during pregnancy on oral and dental health and also the systemic effect that can influence health to reduce the risk of preeclampsia.
