Abstract

THIS STUDY AIMS TO EXPLAIN HOW THE EFFORTS PRESENTED BY THE GLOBAL SOCIAL MOVEMENT THROUGH "CANCEL THE DEBT" ON FOREIGN DEBT IN ZAMBIA. THE RESEARCH BEGAN WITH THE TREND OF INCREASING FOREIGN DEBT IN ZAMBIA WHICH THEN HAD AN IMPACT ON THE PRESENCE OF SAVING PROGRAMS FROM CREDITORS BOTH ON A MULTILATERAL AND BILATERAL SCALE. THIS STUDY USES THE THEORY OF TRANSNATIONAL CONTENTION BY SIDNEY TARROW. ON TRANSNATIONAL CONTENTION, THERE ARE 5 PHASES OF GLOBAL SOCIAL MOVEMENTS WHICH INCLUEDE: DOMESTICATION, GLOBAL FRAMING, TRANSNATIONAL DIFFUSION, EXTERNALIZATION, AND FORMATION TRANSNATIONAL COALITIONS. THE RESEARCH METHOD USED IN THIS STUDY USES THE EXPLANATORY QUALITATIVE RESEARCH METHOD BECAUSE IT EXPLAINS THE GAPS AND ANOMALIES THAT OCCUR IN THIS STUDY. THE DATA OBTAINED IN THIS STUDY USED SECONDARY DATA WHICH INCLUEDED: LIBRARY RESEARCH, READING BOOKS, JOURNALS, OFFICIAL NEWS WEBSITES, AND MANY OTHER SECONDARY SOURCES. THE RESULT OF THE STUDY SHOW THAT THE 5 EXISTING PHASES OF TRANSNATIONAL CONTENTION AS PART OF THE GLOBAL SOCIAL MOVEMENT IT HAS HAD AN IMPACT ON SOLIDARITY FROM THE INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY EVEN AT THE LEVEL OF INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS IN PROVIDING SUPPORT FOR THE "CANCEL THE DEBT" MOVEMENTS IN ZAMBIA BOTH IN THE FOREIGN DEBT SITUATION IN ZAMBIA IN THE PAST AND DURING THE COVID - 19 PANDEMIC.
